Many Western cultures developed dances that were highly stylized without their partners expressing any erotic emotions. These dances were about control in a social situation. The waltz is an excellent example. Any two people can waltz together to music that is not emotionally stirring in an erotic way. The goal of this dance is to have graceful movements that are within the bounds of morality. Latin dancing is nothing like most Western forms of dance.
The majority of Latin dancing consists of erotic music and exotic movement. Latin dancers don't pretend they are fiery and having a great time. Instead, they enjoy the music and let its often erotic sounds move their bodies for them. It is often uncontrolled and expresses the passionate side of the dancers. It is expected that the dancers will let their wild side shine during their time on the floor. This is the difference between most Western dances and Latino dancing.
